Kennedy Reid, one of Portmore, St Catherine's proudest residents, launched his book The Story of Portmore in the municipality last Sunday.

The launch was held at the Lions Civic Centre in Edgewater. The occasion saw a number of persons from Portmore and its environs turn out. Among them was Mayor Keith Hinds and his wife Marjorie, who received the first copy of the book.

"I think it is a well researched book that reflects Portmore in its historic and truest form," said Member of Parliament Fitz Jackson.

Reid said he started thinking about writing the book after reading stories in The Gleaner.

"I found a great deal of information while reading The Gleaner online. I decided to do further research, therefore, the desire to write hit me. That is where it started, " Reid told the audience. the book took six years to complete.

The book was published by Greathouse Books and can be had at a price of $3,600.
